Aren’t the Holidays the happiest time of the year?! Giving back, family, presents, decorations, food, Christmas parties…the list goes on! My boyfriend’s work had a Christmas Holiday party this past weekend, so we decided to attend. (Um, free dinner and beer? I think yes!)
I had no idea what to wear, but seeing how it was a Holiday work party I decided to dress formal in a black bodycon slit sleeve dress. And thank goodness I did. It was an extremely formal party; down to the men in tuxedos to the beautiful floral table cloths gracing the tables. I felt like I was in an episode of The OC. You know, like one of those elegant parties they always attended or threw for every occasion? (Cotillion, Kristen & Julie’s business launch, One of Julie’s bridal showers, etc.) I actually liked that feeling and it was a gorgeous set up!
Two long tables were set up in the center of the hall, filled with various foods. Chicken, bread, pasta, salad, vegetables, etc. We grabbed some food then found a seat at one of the dozens and dozens of elegant round tables that seated 8 people. There were four other people seated at the table we chose, two of them coworkers of my boyfriends. The other two were older ladies who were a joy to be around.
After dinner, they brought out dessert. Cheesecakes, brownies, lemon cakes, pumpkin pie, chocolate covered marshmallows, and almond cakes all graced the table in front of me. I had cheesecake and a brownie, which was unbelievably delicious!
They also had a Photo Booth set up, where you could dress up in Christmas hats and glasses and take four snapshots to get printed at that moment. I was caught off guard in two of the snapshots, but it was all in good fun!
Once they removed the long dinner tables in the center, that served as the dance floor. The DJ started playing some music, while everyone sat at their tables eyeing who would be first to jump out on the floor and bust some moves. One of my boyfriend’s coworkers, who was apparently really feelin’ himself, decided to jump out there and start dancing. He was normally the quiet one at work, so everyone was laughing and surprised that he would be out there starting the party.
After awhile, more people went out and started dancing. I love to dance, but mostly to hip hop, which they unfortunately weren’t playing. (AKA it’s a formal work party, haha.) They played a lot of songs that had certain dances to it. They even played “Watch Me” by Silento, and when he sings “Do the Stanky leg, do the stanky leg…” part, a guy on the dance floor was doing the stanky leg extremely funny. One of the ladies at our table was even cracking up saying “Do you see his stanky leg?? Looks like he got a broken leg tho!” It was hilarious!
Overall I had a great time feeling fancy for the night!
Holiday parties are always fun and eventful. If you’re thinking about throwing a Holiday Party, don’t forget the main details:
1. Decorations: Decorations really make guests feel welcomed and that they are actually at a holiday party. Christmas lights really make a room stand out. Place lights around tables and entrances. Have a crazy decorated tree. Have fancy tablecloths, silverware, plates, and cups. Place red flowers or persimmons on tables. Have banners or drapes bordering the room.
2. Food: Have a variety of different foods, since you will be having a variety of different guests. Pastas, chicken, tri-tip, bread rolls, salad, mashed potatoes, etc. Have side finger foods as well; such as egg rolls, bacon wrapped potatoes, cheese sticks, and sliders. Don’t forget the dessert!
3. Events: Hire a good DJ to play party starting songs. Have room for your guests to dance. Have a section where guests can take photos. Create a fun holiday backdrop for your guests to enjoy taking photos. Play games. Have a gift exchange.
4. Party Favors: Create little bags of party favors to give to your guests before they leave. It’s just a way of showing them that you appreciated their presence. You can put candy, cookies, gift cards, candles, or keychains in their bags.
Happy Holidays! Have fun and be safe!
