I’m extremely excited for this post and to announce that: I received the Kylie Lip Kits! Yes, it’s very difficult to get your hands on them, but I was definitely not going to pay double or triple than the original price like how they are selling on Ebay and Instagram! Here I explain all the details on my lip kit purchase; colors, shipping, comparisons to Colourpop matte lipsticks, etc. Keep on reading for the deets….
KYLIE LIP KIT:
As most of you may know, Kylie Jenner came out with her own liquid lipsticks called the Kylie Lip Kit back in November. Each box contains a liquid lipstick and a matching lipliner. There are now 7 different shades, which Kylie has for sale on her website kyliecosmetics.com. I guess due to the high volume of Kylie’s followers and ‘impact’ she has on people, her lip kits sell out at every launch. I believe she’s had about 5 or 6 ‘restocks’ since November, which means she will post a date and time on her app to inform customers when they will be restocked on the website, only to have them sell out within minutes! I honestly believe she does this restock thing intentionally, because it brings more of a hype to the product and more of a want. Which is true, because that’s the only reason I wanted to get it…..well, that and my sister loves Kylie Jenner so I wanted to get one for her and try one for myself.
Ordering:
I clearly do not have Kylie’s app, so all I did was stalk the comments on the @kyliecosmetic‘s Instagram and found out the 3pm restock time for Monday February 29, 2016. I did a lot of research on what colors I would purchase, and the only two colors I would really wear was Candy K and Dolce K. So right at 3:00pm PST, I got on the Kylie Cosmetics website and put those two colors in my cart. When I got to the checkout screen, I quickly entered all my information (name, address, email, credit card information, etc.,) then I hit the submit button. And that’s when it took me to a ‘Processing’ page which began loading…..after awhile the screen changed: to an ERROR PAGE!!! I got kicked off my processing order page! I refreshed and it took me back to the checkout page. I believe I clicked submit once again and it once again took me to another error page. I didn’t want my credit card charged multiple times, so I literally gave up. I was sure I wasn’t able to snag the items since I was repeatedly being kicked off. Kylie even posted a photo saying like over 140,000 people were accessing the site at the time, and they were working on fixing the site. At 3:13 I went back to the product page and saw everything was SOLD OUT already!! I was kind of disappointed I wasn’t able to get the items, but decided it wasn’t ‘meant to be’ if I didn’t receive them.
Shipping:
Later that day I checked my email, and saw at 4:54pm I had gotten a Confirmation Email for the Kylie Lip Kits!! I was shocked I had actually gotten them, and I saw my card was only charged once! The Lip Kits are $29 each, plus a hefty $8.95 shipping charge. The shipping charge is pretty pricey, due to the fact that I only purchased two lip kits that don’t even weigh a pound, and that I live approximately 5-6 hours away from their warehouse….But anyways, two days later on Wednesday March 2 at 8:18am I received a second email of my shipping confirmation. And that Friday, on March 4, I received my lip kits!!! I ordered on Monday and received Friday. So for shipping in California it only took 4 days including the processing time, which is pretty fast.
Review and Application:
The lip kits came in a cute black and white designed box as you can see in the photos. The box folds out and has the lip kits inside with a cute little pre-made card from Kylie. The packaging is actually really cute, and I was extremely excited to open it.
First I lined my lips with the lipliner. The liners are extremely creamy and feels great on the lips! I then filled the rest of my lips with the liquid lipstick. I thought these were retractable lipliners at first, but when I tried to twist the bottom and nothing happened, I assumed you had to sharpen them. “How do you sharpen these Kylie Lip liners? Aren’t they plastic?” Yes, that’s the first thing I thought of. The lipliners do indeed look plastic, but once you sharpen it you’ll see it’s a pencil. I use a regular Ulta sharpener and it works perfectly.
The lipstick glides on smoothly, then dries right away. The lipstick does last quite awhile. The quality is honestly amazing, but is it worth paying $80 on eBay for a lipstick since you can’t make it to the next restock? No, it’s not. You can definitely wait until the next restock, or use similar lipsticks. It’s not MUCH better than other liquid lipsticks out there, like Colourpop for example. I know so many people are saying they are the same exact product, but Kylie’s lip kits are a tad bit better. They do last a little longer and are more hydrating than the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks, but nothing so major where you HAVE to buy the Kylie Lip Kits. Overall, I’m impressed with the quality of the Kylie Lip Kits, and I do recommend them if you have a chance to purchase them, but it is definitely not worth the stress of trying to beat all these customers to the punch at restock time.
COLOURPOP COSMETICS:
So, the real reason I purchased three Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks? Because I thought I would never be able to get my hands on the Kylie Lip Kit, so I ordered these a week or two before before the Kylie restock date. I read many reviews saying these were dupes for the Kylie Lip Kit, just a bit more drying. Which is true.
But these Colourpop lipsticks are a steal, for only $6 a pop! I even signed my email up on their site, and got $5 off, which basically paid for the shipping costs. For the price point, these liquid lipsticks are great! The colors are beautiful, and it goes on smoothly and lasts for hours. I did notice it started to come off within the 4th or 5th hour of having it on, and my lips did get a little more drier. But nothing too noticeable where I wouldn’t wear it again or anything.
Dupes:
The Colourpop colors I purchased were Beeper, Trap, and Midi. Many people have claimed that Beeper is a dupe for Dolce K. And that Midi is a dupe for KoKo K. For Candy K, the Loreal Colour Riche Lipliner I always use in Au Naturale reminds me so much of that!
Conclusion:
Overall, I’m satisfied with these 5 new liquid lipsticks I purchased. Both Kylie Lip Kits and Colourpop’s lipsticks are great quality! It’s just a matter of personal preference. Everyone has different needs and they may work for you or not. My favorite Kylie Lip Kit would be Candy K, and my favorite color on Colourpop is Trap! Those colors are absolutely gorgeous and I wear them often now!
