Kylie VS. Carli – Kyshadow The Bronze Palette and Carli Bybel Eyeshadow Palette Reviews

Okay Okay, so this isn’t a comparison review or anything like I made it out to be. They are completely different palettes – but I got them both recently and decided to review them at the same time. They are both cardboard eyeshadow palettes with round pans and a few similar bronze colors. But the price though – complete opposite of each other! Keep on reading for the reviews and the makeup looks I came up with using each palette.

Carli Bybel Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette

So the Carli palette has been out for about a year now, but could only be purchased online at the BH Cosmetics website. Recently, Ulta has finally released the palette in their stores and website! You would think since its been out for awhile it wouldn’t be selling out anymore, but nope, wrong! It sells out quick in the Ulta stores since release! I first noticed the palette on the display at Ulta, and noticed they were sold out. While swatching the colors I overheard a customer ask the sales associate if there were any more Carli palettes. The sales associate then brought out a new box full of palettes. I made sure to snatch that one up, especially seeing the price was only $14.50! Less than a week later I returned to the same Ulta and saw the palettes were sold out. I heard other customers asking if there were any more in stock, and to their dismay the associate told them they were sold out.

For only $14.50 you receive 14 beautiful eyeshadow colors! The larger four at the bottom can be used as highlights. I don’t use highlight much, but I tried these on and they actually look really gorgeous on my skin! There are soooo many looks you can create with this palette, and I love the colors, especially the fourth color in the first row, the dusty rose color. For the price point, this palette is definitely worth it! It’s a great everyday palette and it’s awesome Carli came out with a palette anyone can afford.

The quality of the eyeshadow are decent, but for me they did fade. By the end of the day the colors weren’t patchy, just faded and lighter than when I first applied it hours before. I do feel the shadows to be a little chalky during application, but nothing too serious. I’m honestly just accustomed to using the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, which is my all time favorite most high quality eyeshadows I have ever used, so nothing can quite compare in my opinion. Although not perfect, this palette is great! I actually used it for two weeks straight after purchasing it, and I just can’t get over that price!

For my Carli Bybel makeup look I used:

  • Color #1 all over the lid
  • Color #3 in the crease
  • Color #4 in the outer V
  • Color #5 blended in outer V as well
  • Color #7 in the center of the lid
  • Color #12 to highlight brow bone and cheek bones

Kylie Cosmetics The Bronze Kyshadow Palette

Okay, so I admit I fell for the hype on this palette and gave in! If you aren’t familiar with the Kyshadow palette, Kylie Cosmetics released this eyeshadow palette recently and sold out in about a minute on the first release date. The next restock wasn’t until about two weeks later, which in the meantime had people literally craving to have it! Including me! So on the August 12th restock date, I heard it was going to be released at 2pm, so I had all my information typed and ready in advance, and when the site went live I purchased it right at 2pm. Thankfully I didn’t have any loading or website issues and was able to snag one! Unfortunately, the palette didn’t ship out until exactly 7 days later. Then after it shipped took another 3 days to arrive. I guarantee they were manufacturing more palettes during that wait time, because even for the Kylie Lip Kits there wasn’t a shipping delay that long!

Honestly, the packaging concept is SO cute! I love that she calls the eyeshadow ‘Kyshadow’ and the little high quality animated note that comes included (her eyes that wink and unwink). The edge of the box comes all bronzed up with ‘The Bronze Palette’ printed at the top.

She has her signature located on the back like normal, then when you remove the palette it comes in a compact cardboard type palette with her eyes on the front with metallic tears forming, just like how her lip kit had. On the back of the palette contains the names of the nine eyeshadows in the palette.

When you open the palette, it contains the nine eyeshadows and on the inside cover says ‘Kylie.’ It has come to the attention to many people that there is no mirror. Before I began Youtube, I never used the mirrors located in palettes, but since I’ve started creating a couple makeup videos, I use the palette mirror while filming. For this particular palette it was harder to film my makeup look because there was no mirror (it didn’t work for my setup), so I had to constantly keep switching around so I could be seen on camera. The mirror isn’t a deal breaker or anything, but I mean for $42 PLUS $9 shipping I imagine a mirror would be nice instead of staring at the name ‘Kylie’ all day.

Color wise, I’m impressed! This is also an everyday palette with gorgeous warm colors that you can dress up or down. Create a smoky eye using Bronzite and Obsidian, or a natural eye with Topaz and Jasper.

During my first application of the shadows, the quality was quite nice -very blendable, buttery and smooth. Still not no Too Faced quality, but being as its basically the same price as a Too Faced palette, I don’t believe it’s worth $42 (actually comes out to about $54 with shipping and tax.) On my second applications after that, they seemed a little more difficult to blend for some reason. The shadows do last all day for me though. I believe this palette has the quality where it should be around $25. I honestly love this palette more for the colors than anything else. I am a fan of this palette, don’t get me wrong, but the price point is what kills me on it. If you’re looking to purchase this palette, I say go for it, but do you really need it? I don’t think so. It’s a great palette, but its not worth THAT much hype that it’s getting.

For my Kylie Kyshadow the Bronze look I used:

  • Jasper all over the lid
  • Topaz in the crease
  • Tiger Eye over the crease
  • Citrine in the outer V
  • Hematite blended in the outer V as well
  • Quartz and Goldstone in the center of the lid
  • I used Topaz and Citrine on the lower lash line blended

All in all, I would stick with the Carli Bybel palette if you had to choose between one. That one is just so cheap and can be used everyday, so its well worth it. I do enjoy both palettes though, they have the perfect colors! The Kylie palette will probably be sold out for the next few months with random restock dates, just like how it was when the Lip Kits first released (hmmm, great marketing on their part? Or just annoying?) Either way, you aren’t missing out on anything if you can’t get one!

I love crepes!!!! Before I left for Austria I was always either asking for churros dipped in chocolate or crepes!I’ve been wanting to revamp my site too but things are just too busy. It’s a great idea you’ve created a page for your artwork. I always love your stuff![]
