I recently found this vintage Louis Vuitton Trousse Toilette 18 and have been loving it! It was made in 1983 (so vintage!) and in literally perfect condition. It definitely does not look like a piece from 1983! There are no rips, no stains or basically any wear. Normally toiletry and cosmetic pouches have makeup stains, peeling, or stickiness on the interior – and this one has none! Although it did have a heavy perfume smell to it (no offense, but like an old lady perfume), so I aired it outside for a couple days and the smell has subsided quite a lot.
I had been eyeing the Trousse 18 because it was so rare, and not too big or too small. It’s also a worry free makeup bag – no vachetta or leather on the exterior, and a wipeable interior with elastics for bottles.
This particular Trousse has the canvas pull tab on the Eclair zipper, which Louis Vuitton used in the early 80’s and prior to that. It’s amazing the canvas tab is still attached, as it’s rare to not only find a Trousse 18 but to get one with the tab still there too!
I did get it authenticated by Meme’s Treasures, which is a reputable LV authenticator, so it’s a 100% authentic piece.
I imagined this cosmetic bag to be as the ‘everyday’ type of bag – to throw in your purse on a daily basis with essential ‘touch up’ makeup. The Louis Vuitton Trousse 23 seems to be the travel cosmetic bag, being able to fit all your makeup for a trip, and the Trousse 28 being large enough to fit full sized hair products and tools.
What I’ve come to realize is this Trousse 18 fits way more than I expected! I can almost fit all the makeup products I would use for travel (not including makeup brushes or toiletries). There’s also room for a couple more small makeup products too!
- Too Faced Primed and Poreless Face Primer
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation
- L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Concealer
- Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder (mini travel size)
- ELF Eye primer
- NYX Micro Brow Pencil
- NYX Eyebrow cake powder
- Too Faced White Chocolate Chip Eyeshadow palette
- Tweezerman eyelash curler
- Benefit Rollerlash Mascara (travel size)
- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye pencil
- Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer
- Too Faced Love Flush Blush
- L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Liner in Au Naturale
And these are the items that weren’t able to fit that I would use to travel with:
- Burt’s Bee’s Makeup Remover wipes (If I got a travel size, it may be able to fit)
- Alba Botanica Jasmine moisturizer
- Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray (travel size)
- Real Techniques Miracle Complexion blending sponge (with travel case)
I am very impressed on how much of my makeup can fit in the Trousse 18! Almost my entire makeup products! I wasn’t able to fit half of those products in my previous cosmetic pouch, so I’m very happy with my decision. I’m super excited to use this, as its not only perfect for my lifestyle but also a piece of vintage history!
Fashionphile and The Real Real are some reputable luxury consignment stores to purchase pre-loved items, and Poshmark has some good finds too, but make sure you authenticate if purchasing on Poshmark!
Thanks for reading and I hope you guys enjoyed this post!

Love this blog post! I recently purchased both the 23 and 28 and absolutely am over the moon with them. I use the 23 as a makeup/catch-all in my neverfull and it’s perfect. It has reduced the number of pouches I have to carry and made my bag so much lighter (and my life easier)! Congrats on finding such a perfect little gem!
