Tips to Make Your Natural Hair Look Styled (And How I’ve Been Embracing Mine)

Outfit Details: Off the Shoulder Crop Top

I’m not sure if anyone has noticed, but lately I’ve been sporting my natural hair. For the past few months I’ve been letting my hair air dry (no blow dryer or heat) and letting it be free and natural of any kind of products. My hair has more of a thicker and course texture, so fortunately for me I have natural waves that make my hair look somewhat styled already. After I wash my hair, I comb it, then let it air dry for a couple hours while I work on the computer. It dries naturally wavy, and looks especially cute and curly for next day hair.

So now I have that messy boho type hair 😂. But I really enjoy it! Nice beachy waves (pun intended) on my recent road trip on Hwy 1, where we stopped at several places including Big Sur, which was absolutely beautiful (and so was our stop there to get Ceviche)! A definite must-see for sure!

I’ve been curling my hair for years (was always my go-to look), and now I can’t even remember the last time I curled it! I definitely save a good 40 minutes while getting ready now!

Here are some tips I do to make my natural hair look styled and (somewhat) put together. Keep in mind everyone has different hair types, so what works for me may be different for you!

  • After you comb hair while it's wet, part your hair in a way it frames your face best.
  • If you don't have natural waves/curls (or if you want extra), put your hair in a low bun or braids and let it out after a few hours for natural waves.
  • Curl just a few of the front strands if necessary.

    • Clip one side of the hair with bobby pins (like I have in these photos) or even a nice barrette pin for that vintage look. (My go-to natural look!) A nice hair accessory will always make your hair look styled. Loving these cute oversized pearl hair clips!
  • Pull back hair with a cute headband and let the rest of your hair free.
  • Put your hair in a natural messy bun. Remove strands in front to shape your face.
  • Curl a few strands in front and put the rest in a side braid.
  • Alway have your hair to one side, or behind your back.

All in all, embrace your natural hair! This is the hair that you were born with, so let it be free and healthy! Slowly but surely I’m learning to embrace what I was born with, and not try so hard to change it. Next for me will be a more natural makeup look!

What tips do you have for styling natural hair? Let me know! I need all the tips I could get as well!

You have gorgeous hair! Embracing your natural style is such a great thing to do and it’s always nice to give it a bit of a break from styling products every now and again!
